Okay I know what you’re thinking; “Zoë, please, why are you trying to talk to me about swimsuits in October?” and I understand your point but hear me out: now that the summer holidays are long over there are loads of us heading off for some winter sun, right? Last month, mid-September time, we were due to visit family for a few days over in Italy and having not been to a poolside kinda holiday for over a decade I didn’t have a swimming costume. So when the lovely people over at UK Swimwear offered to send me a swimsuit to try out I jumped at the chance, it was perfect timing, and this beautiful lace Pour Moi number [gifted] turned out to be such a dream to wear.

Now, those of you who follow me on social media will know that I had to cancel our Italy trip on the morning of the flights due to ill health (I’m still so, so gutted about it) but I really wanted to get some pictures of this gorgeous swimsuit to share with you so as soon as I felt a bit better, we set up an elaborate rig in the living room to take these shots!

One of my favourite things about this swimsuit is the unusual lace cut outs across the mid section. Rather than being knitted or crocheted lace, it’s actually a laser cut pattern in the swimsuit material which means it’s fully waterproof and still stretchy. The cups are moulded with underwiring for a really supportive fit, I’m a 38G but I went for this in a 36G which feels spot on, and the halterneck tie is removable so it can be worn as a bandeau swimsuit if you’d prefer. I’ll admit I didn’t feel quite so secure when I tried it without the halter tie, but that might just be me worrying unnecessarily as the sides of the cups come up high enough to feel as if they’d keep everything in place.

The legs are mid-rise, roomy and comfortably fitted – I didn’t find myself readjusting them too much at all. There is a clasp at the back, much like a bra, with a sweet little keyhole detail underneath. I am wondering if I would tan through the suit in the pattern of the lace if I wore this for a few days on the beach, but I’m packing this when I go away to Fuerteventura at the end of the year so I will find out then and report back.

Overall, this is a really classy and comfortable suit and even though it is sold according to cup and back sizes the body of the suit is very accommodating. As I said previously, I’m a 38G / UK18, and even sizing down to a 36G my size 18 bod fit into the suit with no worries as it’s very stretchy (94% Polymide, 6% Elastane).

After having a browse on the UK Swimwear site I can see that they stock a huge range of different brands and styles, and although they are not specifically a plus size retailer their size range is pretty good. There are just shy of 200 items in their plus size section at the time of writing this. For all my fellow plus size loves who are wisely heading off for some winter sun this year I’d definitely recommend you give them a try. They truly have something for all tastes, with lots of super luxe swimwear at the higher end of the price scale and plenty of items at the more affordable end of the spectrum too.
