Ever since I first promised that I’d start writing about more casual looks, inspired by the #whatfatgirlsactuallywear tag on Instagram at the end of last year, I’ve been keen to post more of that kind of thing. As I said back then, I love planning really dressy outfit posts, but I also think there is value in writing about some of my tried and true basics. After all, whether it be because it’s comfortable or it’s something I feel banging in, there’s got to be a reason that I keep coming back to the same looks years later.
With that in mind, this week’s outfit post is a great example of an old favourite… but this time I’ve given it a bit of a SS17 update. I love the stripey jumper, and I practically live in these stretchy tube skirts, however the oversized denim jacket is a brand new addition to my wardrobe which I am absolutely loving at the moment.
As they look like they’re back in fashion, I’ve had my eyes peeled for the perfect oversized denim jacket for SS17. The competition is pretty fierce right now and there are loads of great denim pieces available (I’ve linked to some of my other faves in the ‘shop the look’ section below). However, as soon as I saw this one by Plus Equals – and in the sale no less! – I knew I’d found my winner.
Plus Equals are a brilliant indie plus size brand whose current range is full to bursting with bright colours, bold prints, fine mesh and shimmering sequins. They run from a UK14 to a UK32, with custom sizing options available, which is so impressive for an indie brand. This jacket is an example of the equally amazing upcycled vintage pieces that they offer, and the more ethical nature of an upcycled piece really appeals to me right now.
As it’s vintage, the quality of this jacket is spot on. It’s oversized nature means that the arms are a little on the long side, but you might have noticed I roll the sleeves up on everything anyway so that took care of that! The jacket is incredibly easy to wear too, just chucking it on over this outfit – variations of which I’ve worn so many times – has given it a new lease of life for me which I’m so here for. The paint splatter pattern is super unique and I’m really enjoying the sense of movement it gives to the jacket; it’s like having my very own wearable Jackson Pollock!
Expect to see a lot more of this jacket from now on; since I’ve gotten it I’ve not stopped wearing it so I’m sure it’ll crop up in future outfits on the blog. It’s a great finishing touch to any laid back, spring look and oversized denim is the perfect piece to update your wardrobe for this season.
