The weather has been so lovely lately that even beginning to think about AW16 style has been nearly impossible, but it rained a bit this week AND there is the promise of a 10 degree drop in temperature over the weekend so I think now is the time. I’ve held off for as long as I can. Here are my picks of the best pieces that my fave plus size brands have to offer for AW16.
Ah, Simply Be. There are always a good few solid items every season and this season is no different. I fell in love with a burgundy trench from M&S at the Curve Fashion Festival last weekend but it is out of my price range, this burnt orange version is much more affordable and it’s in my AW power colour.
The floral maxi here has apparently been picked up and recommended by Comso and there is a waiting list until the end of September to get it so I think it’s one you’ll be seeing a lot of, it is lovely though! The green pleather skirt is a beautiful colour and has a simple 90’s does 70’s vibe that I like very much.
I’m so here for RI Plus now they are extending their size range, and they’re introducing wide fit shoes too *swoon*. When I was a teenager, I pretty much lived in River Island and continued to shop there until I had to admit I wasn’t squeezing into their size UK18’s any more. The black over the knee boots and floral dress will work together perfectly as an autumnal outfit; and if you look closely you’ll find another pleather skirt in my picks as me and pleather see to be having a bit of a *moment* this season.
I really wanted to pick a couple of lovely dresses from ASOS Curve for you here but I struggled to be honest. Instead I went for some of my staples: chunky boots, chunky jumpers and a selection of coats. I’m so in love with this Monki trench, the colour is gorgeous, and it’s available in that magical size L that seems to fit plus size babes really well.
A note about the jacket, I’ve been after a black denim jacket with fluffy ‘borg’ collar for a while but the ladies versions are always stonewash… I checked the mens section on the off-chance and there it was. It’s always worth checking outside of gendered sections as there are some gems around.
These picks were hard, New Look Curves are killing it at the moment. Lots of slinky camis, strong autumnal colours, velvet, awesome prints and cuts. I managed to whittle it down but I’d really recommend having a look at the whole collection. The leopard, flippy midi skirt would look spot on with loafers (opaque tights optional); and the pattern on the longline coat is a classic.
I couldn’t resist adding in a bag, year on year I have had such a thing for NL bags and this large quilted satchel is the giant everyday bag I’ve been looking for.
This list isn’t exhaustive and features my favourite brands of the moment. Even then there are some notable exceptions such as BooHoo Plus and Missguided Plus. I’m still finding new things every day which I usually tweet out as they are released, I watch that ‘new in’ section like a hawk! Tell me, what are your must have picks for AW16? Is there anything you think I’d love that I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments below!
