Edinburgh Street of Light 2016

When I heard about the Street of Light in Edinburgh, which is as it sounds: a whole street that lights up in time to music, I knew I had to pay it a visit to kick off my Christmas week in the most festive way possible. A chic, christmas, one night stop over in the capital called for a christmas chic outfit, and this mesh a-line skirt [affiliate link] teamed with classic winter wardrobe staples fit the bill perfectly.

First off: I love this skirt! It’s incredibly comfortable, easy to wear and most importantly it’s very true to size. The mesh stripe detailing is contemporary but subtle and it looks perfect with the navy trench. It has an elasticated band at the waist which makes it super practical for sit down meals (of which I enjoyed a few), and whilst it doesn’t have pockets I’ll make an allowance for that on this occasion because otherwise, it’s delightful and incredibly reasonably priced.

I styled the skirt with a plain black roll neck, navy trench, and chunky black wide fit chelsea boots – although the amount of walking we did brought about a change into my ol’ faithful Vans [affiliate link] halfway through the day. The black roll neck is my default top for wearing with any style of skirt, as it always looks so polished.

The navy trench is very old season, but I have linked below to an Elvi number (from the Hayley Hasselhoff collection [affiliate link]) as it’s the closest in both colour and length that I can find for sale just now. However, I have seen a very similar style in Primark at the moment in both khaki green and black.

Accessorising came in the form of my christmas necklace of the moment, the excellent candy cane heart from Black Heart Creatives, as well as my polka dot scarf [affiliate link] and satchel [affiliate link] . The satchel was a gift from my mother a couple of years ago and it’s the perfect size for travelling as I can fit so much in there! I love the polka dot accents against the navy and I think it tops the whole look off wonderfully.

 Colourpop Lippie Stix in Ellarie

I kept my make up simple for the day of pacing the city of Edinburgh, with classic black liner and a one of my new lip colours for winter, Colourpop Lippie Stix in Ellarie. I’m currently trialling a new mascara that came in my Love Me Beauty subscription box this month, Benefit Roller Lash [affiliate link] , and I’m really enjoying how it volumises my lashes as well as holding the curl.

Whatever it is you’re getting up to this festive weekend then I do hope you have the best time. I know I’ve been banging on abut ‘merry’ this and ‘festive cheer’ that these last couple of weeks but please do remember that it’s okay to not be okay during the holiday season; check out this post from Kellie over at Big Fashionista for places you can turn to and numbers you can call if you need any help and support over the next few days and weeks.
