As much as the classic biker jacket is being lauded as ‘the’ jacket of the moment, I can’t help but notice how many great bomber jackets there are available from plus size brands right now – mark my words, these are going to be huge news for quite some time. I love the classic bomber jacket cut, and for the changeable weather we are having you can’t beat them for keeping away the chill and fending off the April showers with style. I’ve rounded up my absolute favourites here for y’all that won’t break the bank.
I’m starting out strong with this absolute beauty from Simply Be. The eagle eyed amongst you will have seen this jacket on some of the finest blogging babes in recent weeks. The gorgeous Amanda Apparel teamed it with denim for a sassy evening look, and the lovely Danielle Vanier wore it on day two of London Fashion Week with the coordinating mini skirt (which is such a great look).
Available in sizes 12 to 32 for £50.00 and made mainly of cotton with a 2% elastane content. This bomber is more longline than the cropped, or shorter, cut of a traditional bomber. However, this will vary between hip and waist depending on your height.
I know what you’re thinking…. ‘Florals?… For Spring?’ But this floral bomber jacket from New Look Inspire is, hopefully, a taste of much more dynamic things to come from the brand. A little birdy tells me they are soft launching a new curve range, so keep your eyes peeled in the coming months for more like this.
I love the floral on black pattern and the shorter cut of the jacket. This is available in sizes 18 to 32, is competitively priced at £32.99, and the fabric is 95% polyester and 5% elastane.
Firstly, this sexy number isn’t actually made of silk. If it were, I’d be avoiding it like the plague. It’s a silky, polyester fabric which is so much easier to care for and has a lovely fluidity to it. The nude, almost rose pink, colour is incredibly versatile and a great alternative to brights or black.
This bomber will cut off just below the waist on most, has elasticated waist and cuffs, and is perfectly lightweight enough for the coming months. It is available in sizes 16 to 24 and is priced at £35.00.
Elvi Metallic Reptile Print Bomber
So, now we’re into sale bargains territory with this excellent shiny snakeprint bomber from Elvi. The print on the body of the jacket is more shimmery silver than this image implies, so is perfect for evening wear. Although I wouldn’t be against wearing it out on sunny days too! It’s one of the shorter bombers on this list, coming in at waist length, but for me that’s ideal.
This is 100% polyester and although listed as handwash only, I can’t imagine polyester is going to fare too badly in a washing machine (disclaimer: I am an idiot with care instructions and this is terrible advice, if you’re not sure then follow the care instructions to the letter!). Currently available for £47.40, reduced from £79.00, in sizes 14 to 26; this is a little piece of luxury at a much more reasonable price.
Alright, alright. This is way too expensive…. even in the sale it retails at £159.99 (down from £259.99). But I couldn’t leave it off this list as it really is one of my favourites. I love the beautiful embellished shoulders on the mint green satin and the contrasting striped waist / collar / cuffs as some Beetlejuice realness to a lovely piece.
Available in sizes 16 to 28, this waist length bomber by Anna Scholz is the stuff springtime dreams are made of.
