As a Tall-ish Woman™ one of the items of clothing I struggle to find is a nicely designed maxi dress that is long enough for me. Up until recently, I’ve only really managed to find one maxi dress that was anywhere near a longer length. So when I tried on this gorgeous strappy black maxi dress* from Pink Clove, and found that it was actually floor length, I was a very happy bunny indeed!
Aside from the length, the main thing I love about this dress is the strappy, harness style neckline. Paired with the off the shoulder cut, it’s a very simple but very effective design. The material is thick and slightly stretchy, I’d say it’s definitely more a winter dress than a summer one.
Considering it’s an affordable fast fashion item it’s really well made, the seams and hems appear to be well sewn and finished off properly. As for sizing, it feels pretty much spot on: I am wearing a UK20 here and the fit is very comfortable.
The one thing to be mindful about with this dress when putting an outfit together is the colour; it might sound silly but the black isn’t quite as dark as I’d expected. In most situations this won’t be noticeable at all, but next to a true black like this bag you can see the difference in tone.
The fancy neckline led to me keeping the rest of the outfit pretty simple. I wore my current favourite going out shoes; some comfy wide fit gold sandals from Simply Be and a pair of cheap and cheerful gold hoops from New Look. I also swapped the vintage black bag below for a gold clutch bag, there aren’t any photos because I’d switched into ‘going out mode’ but here’s the link.
