Happy Monday, and welcome to my very first outfit post! The pictures are just from my old camera phone, so please be kind. It’s also my boyfriend’s first time as ‘photographer’ so I’m positive that the quality of my outfit pictures will improve as he does. If I can ever find my proper camera in the unpacking then they’ll improve again! Speaking of my boyfriend, he is about to head off to the US for ten days to attend a conference for uni, so we decided to hit the town in Dundee for a few bon voyage drinks.
I have just taken delivery of a few select items from the Simply Be sale (I love, love, love a good sale), so what better opportunity than this to debut my new colourful Alice & You Aztec shirt dress? It’s marketed as a longline shirt, I can see it being styled as such with either black tailored shorts and heels, or leggings and ankle boots. However I wore it with black tights and tasseled loafers for a comfy dress effect.
I didn’t go overboard with accessories for this look as the bright pattern on the shirt definitely speaks for itself, so I wore simple big gold hoops and my current fave mirrored gold necklace. I also wore some oxblood ‘fancy flats’ as I have taken to calling anything that isn’t plain black ballet pumps.
I really love this shirt. It’s playful and interesting, it can be dressed up or down, and it’s so versatile. The sizing is pretty spot on. I’m right in the middle of size 16 and 18, I’m wearing a 16 here and it’s slightly tight on the upper arms and really could do with an extra half inch across the bust for me. If there were an 18 I would have swapped the 16 for it, however the sale price on this item meant that there were no 18s left when I bought it. If you’re between sizes then I’d definitely recommend sizing up on this one. The length is really generous though, I’m 5’10” and it sits nicely at mid-thigh for me, perfect for wearing as a dress too.
You should be hearing a lot from me over the next week or so, especially as I’m going to be rattling around in the flat on my own. I’d love to hear from you if you’d like to say hi, all my contact details are on the contact page in the menu.
