My First YouTube Video; Plus Size City Break Lookbook

So, after last week’s post and resolving to branch out more into the kinds of things I want to do, I’ve only gone and put up my very first video on YouTube haven’t I?

On the good weather days last week in Portugal, I took some short video clips alongside the standard photos I’d usually take for outfit posts. In the back of my mind, I had the vague idea of attempting to put together a lookbook for YT when I got home. I’ll admit I hadn’t watched many before making this one, but in a way that might have been a blessing, as it means I had no preconceived ideas of what they should look or sound like.

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to get on YouTube for a while – and I’ve been asked a few times if it’s something I’d ever do – but I’ve been holding myself back. I had a brief dalliance with the format in 2015 when I did a review for hair dye if I remember rightly, but it didn’t feel like quite the right time and I eventually deleted the old account that it lived on. Somehow though, now feels right. I wanted fresh challenges after all, and OH MY GEE learning to edit from scratch is a challenge and a half!

In spite of (or maybe because of) the challenges, I absolutely loved making this! From beginning to end it’s been a total delight, especially the hard bits; I can’t tell you how long it took me to work out how to put little sections of black screen in there, or how much of a faff making the video the exact length of the song I’ve used was, or even finding a song in the first place that I liked and had a legit creative commons license. I’m honestly never happier than when I’m 14 browser tabs deep into a really annoying little problem.

So, enough of my chatter for now: I hope you enjoy my first YouTube offering and if you like what you see then please do subscribe! I can’t wait to get stuck into more, and if you have any feedback or suggestions for things you’d like to see from me in future then please get in touch or leave me comment.

  • This is so great! How did you do that intro?! It’s so neat!
I loved all those looks but that Monki dress is just SO gorgous.

    • Thank you!
I got the intro from this little site I found by accident while searching for YouTube tips, it’s called Renderforest. You can customise any of their pre-made animations then either download a low res version for free or pay to get a super high res version. There are loads of crappy ones, but some real gems in there too. x
