Statement sleeves are ubiquitous this season and I’ve been so keen to take the trend for a spin. This wonderfully romantic pastel pleated number by BooHoo Plus jumped out at me while I was browsing the ASOS ‘New In’ section and I knew right away I’d found the perfect piece to try the trend out. Some of you might have already seen this dress over on my Instagram as I intended to photograph it during a weekend away last month, sadly I wasn’t well enough to review it then so we went and had a big, laid back dinner instead. However, I happily found the opportunity to take some photos on a very sunny day this week, so its finally gotten it’s chance to shine!
Alongside the statement sleeves, I’m very fond of the empire line waist. It means that the dress falls away from just under the bust lending a beautifully floaty and romantic movement when I walk. I also adore the pleated skirt. I really wanted a pastel or metallic pleated skirt during the winter months, but the plus size options were severely limited to say the least. So I’ve made my own plus size pastel pleated skirt dreams come true by layering a light knit jumper over the top of this dress and it works really well.
The statement sleeves are a little bit more conservative than some you’ll see around at the moment, but this is perfect for me. They fall to around 3/4 length (my all time favourite sleeve length) which means there’s much less chance of me catching them in doors or trailing them in my dinner! I bet you I’ll still manage it eventually, though!
As with most BooHoo Plus items, the fit is spot on. I’m wearing my usual dress size – a UK20 – and it’s very comfortable with plenty of room across the bust; this is important as the material has no stretch in it at all. The dress is a lovely length too, falling below the knee on me (I’m 5’10”), however I’ll just offer one small warning: this skirt will blow up wildly on a windy day… I learned that the hard way!
If you want to pick up this dress, and it’s a serious bargain at £25, it is cycling in and out of stock at the moment. I think I was lucky to catch it at just the right time. At the time of writing most sizes are at ‘low stock’ but if your size isn’t available now it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on returns coming back in.
I kept the styling really simple, adding a pair of rose gold block heel sandals from Simply Be and my old faithful charity shop shoulder bag (link to similar). The sunny afternoon meant that sunglasses were a definite requirement, and what would an outfit post of mine be without my trusty hoop earrings? You can take the girl out of South Wales, but you can’t take South Wales out of the girl!
