HOLY SHIT IT’S 2018!
Despite what the title might suggest, this post isn’t wedding related; although I do write about weddingy things sometimes as I bimble along planning my own. Anyway, this NYE I broke with my longstanding tradition and didn’t wear something from Lindy Bop (see 2015 and 2016’s offerings here). For my big night out I wore a beautiful vintage cape with a v.cheap and cheerful dress and earrings from BooHoo.
This cape tho! It was given to me by my Mum last month, after she had bagged it at a charity shop for £6 but never wore it. It was woven in Wales, at the (now closed) Dan-Y-Bont mill in Gilwern, and whilst I can’t work out it’s exact era it feels kinda 60’s to me.
Whilst browsing the Boxing Day sales, I came across the perfect blue dress with just the right amount of 60’s flair that I knew would go perfectly with the cape but, hell of hells, it was in the BooHoo main range. I looked around for something similar in plus, but came up empty handed, so I took a gamble and sized down TWICE getting the largest size available (which was a UK16). Well it only bloody fit, and fit pretty well, however this is because – à la Monki – the dress is cut to be very oversized.
I left my hoops at home and decided that, now the trend is nearly dead, I’d try out some tassels. These mustard earrings looked a lot brighter online but I went with them anyway, as I thought they worked well with the blues in the rest of the outfit.

We spent our New Years Eve 2017 hopping between a couple of our favourite local pubs, then after the bells we headed home in time to catch the last hour of the Hootenanny on TV. It felt like the perfect mix of being fun and sociable, but also laid back, plus I only had the very smallest of hangovers on New Years Day so I feel like it really was the best idea all round!
