We’ve had such a glorious summer this year that I didn’t think I’d need to consider dressing for cooler temperatures for at least another few weeks; but lately the great British weather has proven to be just as unpredictable as ever, bringing the traditional ‘late summer’ conditions that we all know very well!
So when the lovely people at Fashion World asked me if I’d like to choose some pieces from their latest collections to style up, I was immediately drawn to more versatile transitional items. I felt that long sleeved dresses, autumnal hues, and midi lengths were definitely the order of the day!
The very first piece I chose was this lovely, striped eyelet tie shirt dress*. Whilst the bold blue stripes and tie waist are what first drew me to it, the long sleeves definitely made me think it would lend itself to late summer / early autumn dressing really well. This is the sort of garment that would look equally as chic with a pair of opaque tights or layered over some stonewash jeans too.
I went for my usual size and it fits comfortably with room to spare around the waist and the hips. The upper arms, whilst not overly generous, are cut to accommodate my large upper arms very well, and I love the length as it comes to below the knee on my 5’10” frame. I can see me getting an awful lot of wear out of this dress over the cooler months, it’s a real ‘chuck on and go’ kind of piece.

The next item I chose was this cute floral button through dress*, which with it’s summery floral on an autumnal orange background couldn’t be more perfect for this late summer / early autumn period. I kept it summery for this look with some teal lace up flats, but I’m just as excited to wear this layered with my oversized mustard cardigan and some opaque tights when it gets colder.
Again I went for my usual size in this one and I am impressed with the generous, fit. The arms are elasticated to give the blouson effect and this makes for a comfortable upper arm experience! The length is also really good, it’s a healthy midi length on me and for those shorter it will be approaching a maxi length. My one small gripe would be the depth of the neckline at the front, as I’m really not one to go braless, and even wearing my deepest plunge bra I had to readjust the whole area quite often as it worked it’s way into being visible.
Overall, both of these dresses from Fashion World are absolutely smashing and have filled the transitional gap in my wardrobe perfectly. I love how flexible they both are, as each one lends itself to layering up for autumn in a variety of ways; I can even see the striped shirt dress being worn to the office.
I should imagine that I’ll be chatting about transitional fashion quite a lot here on the blog in the coming months, as I have a feeling we’re in for some weird autumnal weather this year.
