I’ve been holding on to this ridiculously good flamingo necklace since Christmas, and I knew a turtle neck would likely be involved when I finally wore it. I’ve been aiming to bring a good mix of more casual outfits to the blog and I think that this look overall fits the bill of being easier to wear. I had such fun putting it together due to all the little details that, for me, totally makes it that little bit special.
Let’s start with the wrap vest, which is by Adia and bought for a song in the Navabi sale. This was such a gamble purchase as I wasn’t sure how I’d style it at all, but it was the faux fur detailing across the back that really made my mind up that I could wear it with a pencil skirt for some smarter layering up.
The faux fur adds an unexpected dash of texture across the shoulders and down to the waist. I love how the detail has taken a simple wrap vest and made it much more interesting! The knit is chunky and warm, the tie belt is comfortable and adds a real flexibility to how you style it. I arranged it in a waterfall style then tied it tightly at the waist, however this vest can also be worn open for casual layering with jeans or leggings. The sizing is pretty spot on, I went for a UK18 – 20 and I felt like it fit me perfectly.
I’m so loving the zip detail on this Jeffrey & Paula jersey pencil skirt! The zip is functional but pretty much just for show as the skirt can be pulled on. The black and white pattern gives it a brushed grey effect which makes it a perfect foundation garment to build a look from. The jersey material of the skirt contains 3% elastane for comfort and fit, and also features a slightly elasticated waist. This, again, is true to size and the UK20 I went for fit me very well.
The necklace really does do all the talking with this look, the flamingo choker style necklace was bought for me as a Christmas gift and is still available (with a hefty discount) from Amazon. The necklace is a little on the heavy side, being made of solid metal with enamelling and crystal accents so wearing it over the turtle neck helps bear the weight of it. I’m really enjoying the amount of affordable jewellery that is available on Amazon and this choker is another great example of it! As the outfit overall is quite neutral, and the necklace is a bright splash of orange, I went with a bold red lip to contrast with both.
