Today is my birthday! It’s been a very long time since I have managed to drag the event out over more than one day, I used to be insufferable about making sure I got a whole ‘birthday week’. This year, my parents came up to Dundee to visit, so I have managed to get a two day celebration out of it at the very least.
The celebrations all started when my boyfriend decided to head out at silly o’clock in the morning and buy me flowers, thank god for the 24 hour Tesco as he got a bit of a bee in his bonnet about it and I’m not sure he would have come home without them.
So, what did I wear for the big day? Well, I have a very dear, very old favourite vintage dress (which was a charity shop find a few years ago) that I have had earmarked to wear for my birthday meal. This old faithful is easy to wear… comfortable… 90’s does 50’s… it ticks all the right boxes for me.
This is an early 90’s ‘Eastex’ branded dress, in a size 16. I love these vintage dresses, they’re very easy to find in charity shops, are inexpensive, and most often have lacing at the back which makes them great for adjusting to your shape without having to start sewing and making alterations. They are designed to fall below the knee, more of a midi length, but with my height they are usually knee length on me – as seen here.
We ate at the Meathouse in Dundee, which isn’t cheap, but the food is absolutely delicious. I had the venison steak with black pudding and red wine jus. The meat was beautifully cooked and the jus was rich and sumptuous.
No birthday night out would be complete without a classy ‘drunk in the pub toilet’ selfie… so here is mine. As you can see, I have teamed my 90’s dress with the best 90’s lipstick: Heather Shimmer. Thank you, Art Bar, for letting me pose in yer loo. Check out part 2 of my birthday celebrations here.
